1. Government Defends E20 Ethanol-Blended Petrol
Why in News?
The Union government defended the implementation of E20 petrol while acknowledging that some vehicles may experience a 3%–5% reduction in fuel economy. It stated that ethanol blending provides a higher octane rating, cleaner combustion and lower lifecycle carbon emissions.

Important for India’s energy security, ethanol-blending programme, reduction of crude-oil imports, agricultural diversification, farmer income, climate commitments and the transition towards cleaner transportation fuels.

2. IITs and IIMs Seek Autonomy under VBSA Bill
Why in News?
IITs, IIMs, IISERs and several Central Universities raised concerns over the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, which proposes a major restructuring of India’s higher-education regulatory system.

3. JPC Recommends Suspension Instead of Removal of Ministers in Custody
Why in News?
A Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill recommended replacing the automatic removal of a Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister after prolonged judicial custody with suspension from office.
