1. China’s Yarlung Zangbo Mega Dam Raises Concerns for India

Why in News?

China is proceeding with the Yarlung Zangbo Lower Reaches Hydropower Project in Tibet near the Indian border despite renewed concerns following a major glacial collapse in the Himalayan region.

The project is being built on the Yarlung Zangbo, which becomes the Brahmaputra after entering India. It is located near the river’s Great Bend, where the river sharply turns towards India.

The project is expected to consist of five power stations with an estimated installed capacity of around 60 GW. A reservoir and an approximately 40-km-long tunnel are also expected to be part of the project.

2. Voter Lists Shrink by 15.7% After Special Intensive Revision
