1. Supreme Court Restricts Retrospective Environmental Clearances
Why in News?
The Supreme Court quashed, with prospective effect, a 2021 Office Memorandum that created a continuing mechanism for granting ex post facto environmental clearance to projects started without prior approval. The Court held that a mandatory environmental safeguard created through delegated legislation cannot be substantially altered through a mere administrative instruction.

2. Public Examinations Amendment Bill, 2026
