UPSC Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
For IAS and IPS, the candidate must be a citizen of India.
Educational Qualification
Candidate must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university. Final year students can also apply subject to conditions.
Age Limit
General category: 21 to 32 years. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per rules.
Number of Attempts
General: 6 attempts. OBC: 9 attempts. SC/ST: attempts as per age limit.
UPSC CSE – Three Stages of Examination
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
Objective type screening test. Marks are not counted in final merit.
Stage 2: Main Examination
Written descriptive exam to test depth, analysis, expression and understanding.
Stage 3: Personality Test
Interview to assess personality, judgement, awareness, communication and administrative temperament.

Negative Marking in UPSC Prelims
There is negative marking for incorrect answers in UPSC Prelims.
